Delivery routing: routes by capacity, time window, driver hours and driver zone

Route optimization with an intelligent engine, your operation’s real constraints and manual fine-tuning on the map — with app-free proof of delivery and an end-to-end, measured SLA.

Delivery routing is the automatic distribution of the day’s orders across the fleet’s vehicles and the definition of the best stop sequence for each route. BrainCargo uses an intelligent optimization engine to decide which orders go in, in which vehicle and in what order, respecting weight and volume capacity, delivery windows, maximum driver hours, route radius and each driver’s preferred zone. Orders arrive via NF-e XML (electronic goods invoice), EDI NOTFIS (the standard Brazilian invoice-data file) or CSV; deliveries to the same address are consolidated into a single stop; and whatever doesn’t fit in the fleet comes back with an explicit reason. The planner adjusts everything on the map, the sequence is recalculated on the spot, and the same system measures delivery SLA per distribution center and per driver.

A good routing tool isn’t the one that returns the shortest route on paper — it’s the one that returns a route your operation can actually fulfill. That’s why BrainCargo lets you declare the real costs: activating a vehicle, leaving an order behind, crossing municipalities, stretching a leg. The result is compact, defensible routes — not overlapping flower-petal routes on a map.

And when the plan meets the street, the same platform follows through: proof of delivery with photo, signature and GPS — via the app or a QR-code link that requires no installation — plus an SLA dashboard per center and per driver.

What you can achieve

up to 30%

fewer kilometers driven

Instead of a spreadsheet, an optimization engine with your operation’s declared real costs — BrainCargo’s target: cutting up to 30% of kilometers driven.

5,000

orders per run

Engine tested with up to 5,000 orders and 1,000 vehicles in the same run, with three algorithms to choose from depending on the size of the day.

1

stop per address

Invoices for the same delivery point are consolidated into a single stop — and never land on different vehicles.

0

mandatory apps for owner-operators

The trip sheet carries a QR code: the driver identifies by CPF (individual taxpayer ID), checks off deliveries with GPS and installs nothing.

Why this module

Fewer kilometers, less diesel

Optimization engine with a declared, adjustable cost model: kilometers, activation cost, compactness and penalties. Tested with up to 5,000 orders and 1,000 vehicles per run.

Same address, one truck

Automatic stop consolidation: invoices for the same delivery point never land on different vehicles.

Left-out orders explain themselves

An unallocated order comes back with an explicit reason — suspect coordinates, insufficient fleet, outside driver hours — instead of a generic “it didn’t work”.

App-free proof removes the owner-operator objection

Trip sheet with QR code: the driver scans, identifies by CPF and checks off deliveries with GPS — no app to install, no account to create.

The route respects the driver

Preferred zones (drawn on the map) and a home-address anchor enter the calculation — the route respects whoever drives it.

End-to-end measured SLA

The same system that plans also measures: on-time percentage per distribution center and per driver, with a detailed report.

How to route deliveries in BrainCargo, in 4 steps

Orders come in, the engine distributes and sequences, the planner adjusts and publishes.

  1. Import the orders

NF-e XML, EDI NOTFIS or CSV. Addresses are geocoded and deliveries to the same point consolidated into a single stop.

  2. Set fleet and rules

Vehicles with weight and volume capacity, delivery windows, maximum driver hours, route radius and each driver’s preferred zone.

  3. Run the engine

Three algorithms to choose from; the engine decides which orders go in, in which vehicle and in what order. Whatever doesn’t fit comes back with the reason.

  4. Adjust, publish and follow

Drag stops between routes, publish to the driver app (or the QR-code trip sheet) and follow execution with proof of delivery.

Frequently asked questions

What is delivery routing software?

It is the software that distributes the day’s orders across vehicles and defines each route’s stop order, respecting capacity, delivery windows, driver hours and each driver’s area. Google Maps sorts stops; a routing tool decides what goes in which truck.

Is a free routing tool enough for a carrier?

For a handful of stops and one truck, yes: Google Maps can order a few dozen addresses. It doesn’t consider weight, volume, delivery windows or driver hours, and it doesn’t distribute orders across vehicles — which is what a carrier needs every day.

What makes the best routing software?

The one that takes orders without typing (NF-e XML, EDI, CSV), applies the fleet’s real constraints, lets the planner adjust on the map, publishes to the driver app and measures delivery with proof. BrainCargo’s routing tool does all of that on the same account as your CT-e.

Does the driver need to install an app?

Not necessarily. There is the Android app with check-in, proof (photo, signature, GPS) and tracking — and there is public proof via QR code on the trip sheet: the driver opens the link, identifies by CPF and checks off deliveries with location, installing nothing. Ideal for third-party fleets and contracted owner-operators.

How many deliveries and vehicles can the routing tool handle?

The engine has been tested with up to 5,000 orders and 1,000 vehicles in the same run. You choose among three algorithms, from the fastest (clustering + TSP) to the most complete (global CVRP), depending on the size of the day.

What if an address geocodes wrong?

An order with suspect coordinates is flagged before entering the calculation (e.g. “imprecise address — postal-code centroid”), and deliveries on the same street still come out consecutively even when the geocoder returns the same point. You check and fix it on the map, without contaminating the route.

How do orders get into the system?

Via NF-e XML (upload, Sefaz sync or e-mail; Sefaz is the state tax authority), EDI NOTFIS (PROCEDA), CSV or the invoice access key. From the documents screen, the “Distribute Load” button sends the selection straight to planning.

Can I change the route the system built?

Yes — and you should. Drag orders between vehicles, draw an area on the map to select, create or dissolve loads and swap the vehicle. The stop sequence is recalculated on the spot, without redoing the whole distribution.
